Local Surf Project
A local watersports access system based in Kalamaki, Chania.
The Local Surf Project is our dedicated local access point for watersports activities in West Crete — including surfing, windsurfing, wingfoiling and SUP.
It is designed to give the local community a simple, structured and consistent way to stay connected with the water.
Local Water Access System
This is not a tourist experience and not a single-sport program.
It is a community-based water access system focused on participation, repetition and long-term progression.
We work with:
- school-age children
- teenagers
- local adults
- returning local participants
Kalamaki Beach, Chania Surf Club
Our Local Base
Kalamaki Beach is our dedicated local environment:
- protected sandy beach break
- safe shallow water access
- ideal for learning and repetition
- easy entry for all ages
- consistent conditions for progression
This creates a stable and friendly environment for continuous water activity.
What You Can Do
Depending on age, level and conditions, the Local Surf Project includes:
- surfing sessions
- windsurfing introduction and practice
- wingfoiling basics and progression
- SUP sessions and cruising
All activities are adapted to participants and daily conditions.
Multi-Activity Progression
The focus is not one single sport.
The focus is natural progression across different watersports, depending on:
- age
- experience level
- comfort in the water
- seasonal conditions
This creates a more complete and flexible learning environment.
Weekly Local Access
For local participants, the project offers the possibility of:
- weekly structured sessions
- ongoing seasonal progression
- consistent water time across the year
- long-term skill development

Falasarna is an epic windsurf spots. The water and beach are so beautiful. Only concern is the off-shore wind. The equipment for rental is great, with a good selection of board sizes and sails. There are harnesses, helmets and safety

Fab beach. Really beautiful as you approach, the view is breath taking. Bit windy when we visited so I would recommend checking the wind direction and speed before you go. Large number of umbrellas and plenty of tavernas in the area. Great.
