Powered by the famous Meltemi winds, the beach delivers reliable wind conditions throughout the summer and has become one of the most thrilling summer windsurfing destinations in Crete.
With the classic north-easterly Meltemi winds blowing throughout the summer and the beach facing west, Falassarna offers a unique side-offshore setup with plenty of space to ride. Its sandy beach, open-water environment and long sailing runs create ideal conditions for beginners building confidence, intermediate riders progressing their skills and experienced windsurfers looking to enjoy long sessions on the water.
Beginners benefit from the long sandy beach and extensive shallow-water areas, creating a safe and confidence-building environment for learning and progression. With plenty of space close to shore, riders can take their time, develop their skills and enjoy the learning process at their own pace.
Freeriders enjoy the wide-open bay and the opportunity for long uninterrupted runs, making Falassarna a fantastic playground for covering distance and enjoying the freedom of the wind.
For freestyle riders and advanced windsurfers, a naturally flat-water area next to the main beach provides ideal conditions for technical progression. It is here that many local riders have developed their freestyle skills and continue to train throughout the season.

Kalamaki Beach, Chania Surf Club
We Cover Every Wind Pattern
To make the most of every wind pattern, we also operate from Kalamaki Beach near Chania. When western winds create less favourable conditions at Falassarna, Kalamaki often provides excellent flat-water sessions for learning, progression and freeriding.
Protected from the open sea, Kalamaki creates a unique riding environment when western winds arrive. These conditions can produce excellent flat-water windsurfing and wingfoiling sessions, offering a different experience from Falassarna.
Still largely undiscovered by mass tourism, the area remains an uncrowded playground where advancing windsurfers and wingfoilers can enjoy space, freedom and quality riding conditions.
When the summer Meltemi blows from the north-east, Kalamaki enjoys lighter and more forgiving conditions, offering a different riding experience from Falassarna.
While Kalamaki provides a valuable complement to our windsurfing system, Falassarna remains our primary windsurfing destination, where beginners, progressing riders and experienced windsurfers
